Lotion and suspension polymerization in the presence of water have been widely used in the laboratory and industrial production of PVDF and its copolymers. Suspension polymerization is initiated in water by using a water-soluble initiator, such as ammonium persulfate or 2,2 '- azodiisobutymidine hydrochloride. Redox initiators, such as potassium persulfate sodium pyrosulfite or ammonium persulfate sodium sulfite, have also been used. Higher pressure is conducive to rapid polymerization, increase molecular weight and improve the efficiency of initiator. In lotion polymerization, cationic surfactants of perfluorocarboxylic acid or perfluoroalkyl propylamine are used as emulsifiers. Seed lotion polymerization can produce Junas latex nanoparticles, in which the crosslinked latex particles are first swelled by miscible monomers, and then polymerized.
